About 87 Engineering
Engineering should solve real problems.
That belief founded this company, and it still decides what we take on, how we design, and what we refuse to call finished.
The Problem We Exist For
Africa's growth runs on infrastructure that too often can't keep up
Across the continent, the same challenge repeats: businesses budgeting for generators before they budget for growth, hospitals rationing power between wards, schools teaching around outages, and communities whose economic potential is capped by the absence of a reliable connection.
These are engineering problems, and engineering problems have engineering answers. What they rarely get is an integrated one — generation designed apart from distribution, protection treated as an afterthought, systems installed and then abandoned. 87 Engineering was built to close those gaps.
Our Response
One firm across the whole system
We bring electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, protection engineering, project management and consulting under a single technical roof — so responsibility never falls between contractors.
Purpose
We exist to engineer reliable, sustainable and intelligent energy infrastructure that improves lives, strengthens economies and accelerates Africa's development.
Mission
To design, develop and deliver innovative electrical infrastructure, renewable energy and automation solutions that create lasting economic, environmental and social impact.
Vision
To become Africa's most trusted energy infrastructure company, delivering transformative engineering solutions that power communities, industries and future generations.
How We Work
Values that show up on site, not just on walls
- IntegrityWe report what the measurements say, even when it costs us the easier answer.
- SafetyNo schedule, budget or client pressure outranks everyone going home unharmed.
- InnovationWe adopt technology when it solves the problem better — not because it's new.
- ProfessionalismDocumented designs, tested protection, commissioning records that stand up to audit.
- CollaborationCommunities, financiers and regulators are partners in the design, not an audience for it.
- ExcellenceThe standard is the system still performing years after handover.
Leadership
Engr. Idahosa Akpata — Founder & CEO
Idahosa is a COREN-certified electrical engineer with more than twelve years in power systems engineering — protection systems, high-voltage substations and renewable energy. Before founding 87 Engineering, he led the technical teams responsible for operating, maintaining and modernizing critical electrical infrastructure at one of Nigeria's largest electricity distribution companies.
That background shapes how this company works. When you have been accountable for a network that hundreds of thousands of people depend on, you learn what actually fails, why it fails, and what it takes to design so it doesn't. 87 Engineering is that experience, applied.
"I didn't start this company to install equipment. I started it because I kept watching good businesses and good communities held back by problems engineering could solve."Engr. Idahosa Akpata
